CCSD winter break 2026 starts at the end of the school day on Friday, December 18, 2026. Clark County School District students have no school from Monday, December 21, 2026, through Friday, January 1, 2027, and classes resume Tuesday, January 5, 2027.

Those dates come from the district's 2026 to 2027 School Calendar for Students, the version linked from the CCSD Calendars page when CCSD Insider rechecked it Thursday, October 29, 2026. The PDF carries a 9/4/25 stamp and a "Subject to change" footnote.

When is the last day of school before winter break?

Friday, December 18, 2026, is the last day of classes before winter break. The calendar marks it "Winter Break Begins, End of Day," so it is a regular school day on the district calendar, not a day off.

December 18 is also the end of the second grading period, at 45 days, and the end of the first semester, at 89 days. Teachers can set earlier cutoffs for late work, so ask before that week. The district calendar does not list early release times or exam schedules, so check with your school about how that last day runs.

When does school start again after winter break?

Classes resume Tuesday, January 5, 2027.

Monday, January 4, 2027, looks like a return day but is not one for students. The calendar lists it as a Staff Development Day with no school for students, and it is the day the second semester begins. Teachers go back Monday. Kids go back Tuesday.

How long is CCSD winter break?

Counting weekends, students are out from Saturday, December 19, 2026, through Monday, January 4, 2027. That is 17 days in a row without school, including 11 weekdays.

What comes after winter break?

The second semester runs from January 4 until Thursday, May 20, 2027, the scheduled last day of school. The first long weekend after break is Monday, January 18, 2027, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with no school. Spring break starts at the end of the day Friday, March 12, 2027, with no school March 15 through March 19 and classes resuming Monday, March 22, all per the same calendar.

Before winter break there are three November breaks: Tuesday, November 3, for Election Day, Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day, and Wednesday, November 25, through Friday, November 27, for Thanksgiving. The full year is in CCSD Insider's 2026 to 2027 calendar checklist.

Does winter break affect School Choice deadlines?

Not directly, but it lands close. The 2027 to 2028 School Choice application deadline for Magnet programs, Open Enrollment, and the Central Technical Training Academy is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m., according to magnet.ccsd.net, checked October 29, 2026. That is one week after classes resume. If you plan to finish the application over break, leave yourself that week to call with questions.

Free library meals and kids' events over winter break

The Las Vegas Clark County Library District's event calendar, checked October 29, 2026, already lists free kids' programs for the break. Times are Pacific.

  • Kids Cafe meals. Food comes from Three Square Food Bank, kids must be there to get a meal, and meals are eaten in the library. Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave., serves ages 3 to 18 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on December 21 to 23 and December 26 to 31 (listing). Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd., serves ages 3 to 18 on the same dates, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the weekend, with an early 4:45 p.m. end on December 31 (listing). All Library District branches are closed Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25, and every branch closes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, per the district's days of closing page checked October 29, 2026.

  • New Year's at noon, Thursday, December 31. Little kids count down to noon instead of midnight, free. Spring Valley Library runs it 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 0 to 11 and their families, and tickets may be required (listing). Centennial Hills Library, 6711 N. Buffalo Drive, runs it 11:30 a.m. to noon for ages 0 to 11, with tickets handed out at the Multiservices desk half an hour before (listing). Sunrise Library, 5400 E. Harris Ave., runs it 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., first come, first served (listing).

Are CCSD offices open during winter break?

Mostly, yes. The district's 2026 to 2027 staff calendar lists Thursday and Friday, December 24 and 25, as a two day holiday for "Administrators, Support Professionals, and School Police Officers," and Friday, January 1, as a New Year's Day holiday for the same groups. Its December work day count is 21 days for 12 month employees, which covers every weekday that month except December 24 and 25. Teachers are a different story. Licensed staff have 14 December work days, ending December 18, and return Monday, January 4, along with some support staff, per the staff calendar.

So a call to a district department on December 22 or December 29 should reach someone, but your child's teacher is likely off until January 4. School front offices set their own break hours, so do not count on them.

Child care over winter break

Safekey does not run over the break. Clark County's Safekey page names Winter Break as a time the program "does not operate," and the City of Las Vegas Safekey page says its program runs only on days in person instruction is in session.

The City of Las Vegas runs Winter Break Camps for kindergarten through eighth grade, ages 5 to 14, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, December 21 to 24 and December 28 to 31. There is no camp on December 25 or January 1. The city says registration is open now until camps fill, and lists these sites and weekly prices:

  • Becker Technology Center, 2221 Maverick St., 702 229 2200, $120 a week.

  • Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702 229 1607, $120 a week.

  • Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St., 702 229 6374, $80 a week.

  • Dula Community Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, 702 229 6307, an adaptive recreation camp for ages 5 to 18, $80 a week.

  • Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., 702 229 6359, $120 a week.

  • Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., 702 229 2488, $80 a week.

  • Veterans Memorial Community Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, 702 229 1100, $120 a week.

Clark County Parks and Recreation runs Day Camp during school breaks at seven centers, for ages 6 to 12, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at $21 a day per child, paid in full to hold a spot. The page does not list winter break dates, so call 702 455 8200 before you plan around it. Henderson families should check the city's youth programs page or their recreation center.

Camp openings and library event times can change before break, so check the city, county, and library pages again in early December.

Library hours over the break

The Library District's hours calendar shows most branches open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, with Laughlin and Mesquite closing at 7 p.m. Branches are closed December 24 and 25, open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve, and closed Friday, January 1, 2027, for New Year's Day.

When is winter break 2027?

If you are planning a year out, the 2027 to 2028 School Calendar for Students, linked from the same Calendars page, shows winter break beginning at the end of the day Friday, December 17, 2027, with no school December 20 through December 31, 2027. Monday, January 3, 2028, is a Staff Development Day with no school for students, and classes resume Tuesday, January 4, 2028. Spring break that year is March 13 to 17, 2028. That calendar also carries a 9/4/25 stamp and "Subject to change."
