CCSD Thanksgiving break 2026 runs Wednesday, November 25, through Friday, November 27. Clark County School District students have no school those three days, so the last day of class that week is Tuesday, November 24, and students return Monday, November 30.

That comes from the district's 2026 to 2027 School Calendar for Students, the version linked from the CCSD Calendars page when CCSD Insider rechecked it Thursday, October 29, 2026. Counting the weekend, that is five days off in a row, Wednesday through Sunday.

What is the "First Contingency Day" on November 25?

The calendar lists Wednesday, November 25, as "No School" and, on the next line, "First Contingency Day (if needed)." Thursday, November 26, is Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 27, is Family Day, both with no school.

A contingency day is a backup school day. Nevada law, NRS 388.095, requires every district to schedule at least three of them, and they "must be used if a natural disaster, inclement weather or an accident necessitates the closing of a majority of the facilities within the district." CCSD's other two are Friday, March 26, 2027, a no school day, and Friday, May 21, 2027, the day after the scheduled last day of school.

So November 25 is a day off unless something closes most CCSD schools before then and the district needs the day back. The calendar does not say how or when CCSD would announce that, and as of October 29 the district had posted no notice about it. For planning, treat November 25 as a day off and watch district notices.

Every November day off for CCSD students

There are three separate breaks for students in November 2026, all on the same student calendar:

  • Tuesday, November 3: Election Day and Staff Development Day. No school for students. Classes run Monday, November 2, and Wednesday, November 4.

  • Wednesday, November 11: Veterans Day. No school. It falls midweek, so students have school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday that week.

  • Wednesday, November 25, through Friday, November 27: Thanksgiving break. No school, with November 25 doubling as the first contingency day.

That leaves 16 school days in November 2026, counting Monday, November 30, if the contingency day is not used.

CCSD does not have a fall break week on the 2026 to 2027 calendar. The October days off were Monday, October 12, for elementary students only, during parent teacher conferences, and Friday, October 30, for Nevada Day.

Does CCSD have Veterans Day off?

Yes. Wednesday, November 11, 2026, is a no school day for all students on the calendar.

What comes after Thanksgiving?

Winter break is next. The last day of class before it is Friday, December 18, 2026, which also ends the first semester. There is no school December 21, 2026, through January 1, 2027. Monday, January 4, 2027, is a Staff Development Day with no school for students, and classes resume Tuesday, January 5, 2027. Every no school day for the year is in CCSD Insider's 2026 to 2027 calendar checklist.

The calendar PDF carries a 9/4/25 stamp and a "Subject to change" note, and it does not list early release days. Ask your school whether Tuesday, November 24, runs a normal schedule. For indoor plans that week, see our November indoor outings guide.

Two free library picks for the break

Both are on the Las Vegas Clark County Library District calendar, checked October 29, 2026, and both are free. Library District branches are closed Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, per the district's days of closing page.

  • Gratitude Guide Scavenger Hunt, Enterprise Library, 8310 S. Las Vegas Blvd. Kids 3 to 17 hunt for clues and solve reading challenges. It runs 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the no school Wednesday, November 25 (listing), and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, November 28 (listing) and 29 (listing).

  • The Polar Express, Sunday, November 29, 2:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m., Windmill Library auditorium, 7060 W. Windmill Lane. The 2004 movie is rated G, kids are encouraged to wear festive pajamas, and seating is first come, first served (listing).

Is CCSD off the whole week of Thanksgiving?

No. Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24, are regular school days on the student calendar, so the break is three weekdays, not five.

Teachers get the Wednesday too. The district's 2026 to 2027 staff calendar lists November 25 as "No School for Students, Licensed Employees and 9-Month Support Professionals." Its November work day counts, 18 days for 12 month employees and 17 for licensed staff, show year round employees are scheduled to work that Wednesday, so a district office call on November 25 may still get an answer. Thursday and Friday are state holidays, covered below.

Why is the Friday after Thanksgiving called Family Day?

It is a Nevada state holiday. NRS 236.015 lists the "Friday following the fourth Thursday in November (Family Day)" as a legal holiday, next to Thanksgiving Day, and says public schools must close on those holidays. The same law covers November 11, Veterans Day, and Nevada Day, observed on the last Friday in October. So the Friday is a day off for state, county, and city offices too, not just for schools, which can catch families new to Nevada off guard.

Child care on Wednesday, November 25

Safekey is not an option that week. Clark County's Safekey page says the program "does not operate when school is not in session," and the City of Las Vegas Safekey page says its program runs only on days in person instruction is in session.

The City of Las Vegas lists Wednesday, November 25, 2026, as a No School Fun Day, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., for kindergarten through eighth grade. The sites are:

  • Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702 229 1607, $35 a day.

  • Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St., 702 229 6374, $20 a day.

  • Dula Community Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, 702 229 6307, an adaptive recreation camp for ages 5 to 18, $20 a day.

  • Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., 702 229 6359, ages 3 to 5, $35 a day.

  • Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., 702 229 2488, $20 a day.

  • Veterans Memorial Community Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, 702 229 1100, $35 a day.

Clark County Parks and Recreation runs Day Camp during school breaks at seven centers, for ages 6 to 12, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at $21 a day per child, paid in full to hold a spot. The page does not list November 25 by name, so call 702 455 8200 first. Henderson families should check the city's youth programs page or call their recreation center.

Library branches stay open Wednesday. The Library District's hours calendar shows 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at most branches on November 25 (10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Laughlin and Mesquite), closed Thursday and Friday, and back at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 28.

Thanksgiving morning with kids

If your family wants to move before the meal, six turkey trots are set for Thursday, November 26, across the valley and Boulder City, and three have a one mile option, according to the organizers' own race pages, checked October 29, 2026. The largest, Life Time's Las Vegas Turkey Trot in Summerlin, starts its 5K at 7:30 a.m., per the race FAQ. Prices, packet pickup, and stroller rules for all six are in CCSD Insider's Turkey Trot guide.

When is Thanksgiving break in 2027?

If you are already booking next year's trip, the district's 2027 to 2028 School Calendar for Students, linked from the same Calendars page, has the same pattern a day earlier. Wednesday, November 24, 2027, is "No School" and the "First Contingency Day (if needed)," and Thursday and Friday, November 25 and 26, 2027, are Thanksgiving Day and Family Day. Veterans Day falls on Thursday, November 11, 2027, and Wednesday, November 3, 2027, is a Staff Development Day with no school for students. That calendar carries the same 9/4/25 stamp and "Subject to change" note.
