Clark County School District's Magnet Schools Fair is Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at South Career and Technical Academy, 225 E. Starr Ave., per the district's October 5 newsroom post. Campus tours are another matter. The Magnet events calendar still read "There are no upcoming events" when checked Thursday, October 29, 2026, so school by school visit dates come from each school's own site. South CTA's Save the Date page, checked October 29, 2026, for example, lists Monday after school tours on November 9 and 23 and December 7, 2026, and January 11, 2027, plus Magnet Preview Nights on November 19, 2026, and January 8, 2027. The questions to ask are in our Magnet tour questions guide, and fair day planning is in 3 things to know before the Magnet fair.
Your child
A Magnet is a commitment for the student, not just the parent. The Application Information page says students who enroll must attend the Magnet full time and stay enrolled for the entire school year, and withdrawing happens only at the end of the year. Let your child see the labs and talk to students in the program they would actually be in.
A shortlist of program names, exactly as the district writes them
Many schools run several programs, and you apply to a program, not just a building. Bring the program names from the Find a Magnet School search or the Magnet booklet, and ask which entry type each one uses: interest, criteria, or audition.
The application allows up to five schools or programs in total, and no more than three of them can be Magnet programs, per the Application Process page. The rest can be Open Enrollment or the Central Technical Training Academy.
Grades, if it is a criteria program
High school criteria programs score first semester or trimester grades at A equals 4 down to F equals 0, out of a maximum 26, and a student needs 16 to enter the lottery, per Qualification Requirements. Those first semester grades are not final until after the grading period ends December 18.
Bring Campus Parent on your phone so you can look at current in progress grades while a staff member explains how they score. Our grades guide explains what "in progress" means there.
Middle and elementary programs are different. Entry to an elementary or middle school Magnet program "is interest based," per the same page, and the district urges families to "attend one or more community events to receive the best information about each program." For those programs a visit is the main research you can do.
Audition paperwork for Las Vegas Academy and Del Sol Academy
Arts programs at Las Vegas Academy and Del Sol Academy require an audition. The Qualification Requirements page says applicants "must attend/submit an audition at the school they are applying to for their application to be complete," and it links each school's audition requirements. Read those before a visit, and bring questions about what to prepare and how to submit.
If your child has a disability
Bring your child's accommodations to the conversation. The Qualification Requirements page says admission criteria "will not be waived, but accommodations will be made where possible to allow the student to meet the program requirements." For current CCSD students, the district pulls disability and accommodation information from Infinite Campus. Families of students outside CCSD are "encouraged to voluntarily provide information about their child's disability and related needs with the application." Ask the school how its program delivers services such as an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The bus stop list for that school
Magnet buses run only for students who live inside the school's transportation zone and meet the distance rule, per the Transportation page. Print or screenshot the 2026 to 2027 stop list for the school you are visiting from the high school or CTA map pages, find your nearest stop and pickup time, and ask whether your address is in the zone. The posted stop lists are labeled for the 2026 to 2027 school year, and the Transportation page says "Stop locations may be adjusted year to year" and that zone adjustments "are not reflected on the transportation website," so reconfirm eligibility and stops for the year you are applying. For a side by side example, see how to compare two Magnets.
Do siblings or twins get in together?
A qualified applicant gets sibling preference only when a sibling is already enrolled at that Magnet for the coming year, and only on a first choice on time application, per the Selection Process page. Siblings applying in the same year do not get it.
Twins and other multiples are the exception the Magnet FAQs describe. If they apply to the same school in the same phase and one is accepted, the other, if qualified, "will be offered a seat at the same school via an appeal." Bring that up with the school if it applies to you.
Questions about money, clubs, and sports
Write these down before you go, since each has a district answer and a school answer.
Fees: the Magnet FAQs say "No application, tuition, or entrance fees are charged for admission," but "Some schools or programs may require a program fee for enrolled students." Ask the amount.
Clubs: under CCSD Regulation 5132, Magnet students can join clubs at their Magnet school but "may not participate in clubs and organizations offered at their zoned school."
Sports: Magnet athletes follow NIAA rules on where they can play, and leaving the Magnet can cost 180 school days of eligibility. Our sports eligibility guide covers it. The FAQs note cheer is not an NIAA sport, so those zoned school rules do not apply to it.
What the school will expect of your child
Ask the school how it handles the district's Magnet Program Expectations. That page sets a 2.0 GPA each semester for grades 6 to 12, attendance probation at 10 absences in a semester (8 on a block schedule), and behavior probation after a Required Parent Conference or a suspension. A student who doesn't meet probation terms can be dismissed at the end of the year. Our after you apply guide covers those rules in more detail.
A note page for after
Write down the program name, the entry type, the stop and pickup time, the program fee, and the one thing your child liked or did not. Applications can be changed only "before the application deadline," per the Application Process page. That deadline is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m.
