How families get in
South CTA is a district full magnet. Students apply to a specific program through the official CCSD School Choice and magnet system.
- Criteria-based programs use a qualification check before the random lottery. Other programs may be interest-based.
- Typical applicants are rising ninth- or tenth-grade students, but eligible grades must be confirmed for each application year.
- Students are generally expected to remain in the program track they select.
- There is no walk-in or neighborhood registration path.
- Sibling, feeder and geographic preferences apply only when current district rules offer them.
- Use the official magnet site for application windows, program choices and selection rules.
Admission is not guaranteed
- Meeting program criteria does not guarantee a seat.
- Seats are limited and assigned through the lottery.
- Program availability, criteria and eligible grades can change.
District materials describe transportation for eligible magnet students within published boundaries, but transportation is not guaranteed for every address. Verify current routes and eligibility before applying.
Who it tends to fit
A good match when
- The student has a clear interest in a Leadership or Innovation theme and is ready to commit to a multi-year track.
- The family is comfortable with magnet scheduling and arranging athletics through the zoned high school if needed.
- The student enjoys project-based learning, labs and career-connected coursework.
Think twice when
- The family wants a traditional comprehensive high school with on-site NIAA sports and a broad elective menu.
- The student is unsure which program to choose or may want to change tracks.
- The family needs a guaranteed neighborhood seat or every grade level to be fully established.
Competitive NIAA athletics are typically arranged through the student’s zoned high school. Confirm eligibility, scheduling and transportation with both campuses.
