About Fremont

Fremont is a public CCSD full-magnet school for grades 6–8. Its Academy of Medical Sciences combines medical-career exploration with the standard middle-school core of math, English language arts, science and social studies.

The school is also CCSD’s only secondary Professional Development School in partnership with UNLV’s College of Education. Teacher-candidates and faculty collaborate on campus. This partnership is about teacher preparation and classroom learning, not a separate admissions track.

Arts, clubs, middle-school athletics and other electives sit alongside the medical theme. Mariachi has historically been noted by the school, but current electives and activities should be confirmed.

How families get in

Fremont is a full magnet school. Middle-school magnet admission is interest-based and uses the CCSD School Choice and magnet process.

  • Apply through the CCSD magnet and School Choice process.
  • Do not assume that a nearby home address automatically assigns a student to Fremont.
  • Confirm current sibling, proximity or other preference rules for the application cycle.
  • A lottery may be used when the program is oversubscribed.
  • Transportation follows district magnet transportation-zone rules when a student is eligible.

Before applying

  • Confirm the current magnet designation, deadline and application steps.
  • Check transportation eligibility from your address.
  • Use the zoning lookup only for context; it does not create automatic assignment to this full magnet.

Magnet rules, preferences, transportation and program details can change. Confirm current information on official CCSD and school pages.

Who it tends to fit

A good match when

  • A student is curious about medical or health-science pathways.
  • Your family is willing to use the interest-based application process and may need to commute.
  • You prefer a whole-school medical magnet theme rather than a magnet program within a larger comprehensive campus.

Think twice when

  • You expect admission through ordinary neighborhood zoning without a magnet application.
  • You want a broader STEM or arts-focused magnet theme.
  • You need a guaranteed seat.

Interest-based middle-school magnets may use a lottery when oversubscribed. Transportation is not guaranteed and depends on district eligibility rules.
