Clark County School District opened the 2027 to 2028 School Choice application window on Monday, October 5, 2026. The deadline to submit is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m., according to magnet.ccsd.net, the Magnet Application Information page, and the Open Enrollment page (all checked Tuesday, October 6, 2026 PT). One SchoolMint form covers Magnet schools, Open Enrollment (formerly Change of School Assignment), and Central Technical Training Academy.
Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas parents decide first what to chase: a themed Magnet, an Open Enrollment seat at a school with capacity, or junior and senior year CTE at Central Technical Training Academy. Caps and the one seat rule matter as much as the school names.
How many CCSD School Choice applications can you file?
Per the Magnet Application Process page (checked October 6, 2026 PT), you may apply for up to five total schools or programs through the CCSD School Choice application. That five includes up to three Magnet programs, along with options for Open Enrollment and Central Technical Training Academy inside the same five. Application changes are only permitted before the deadline; once the deadline passes, SchoolMint changes stop.
The Magnet homepage still tells families to choose "up to three magnet schools or programs." That line is only the Magnet category cap. Read only the homepage and you can miss Open Enrollment or Central Technical Training Academy seats you are still allowed to request.
Apply at applyccsd.schoolmint.com. SchoolMint collects applications and runs the computerized lottery, per the Magnet Selection Process page. As of Tuesday, October 6, 2026 PT, the SchoolMint guardian login page states that CCSD School Choice applications for the 2027 to 2028 school year "are now OPEN."
What is a Magnet school in CCSD?
Magnet programs offer themed courses of study, including International Baccalaureate, performing and creative arts, STEM, and leadership, according to magnet.ccsd.net. Students from across the district may apply regardless of region. Entry is criteria based, interest based, or audition based. Elementary and middle Magnet entry is interest based. High school Magnets may require grades for criteria programs or an audition for performing and visual arts programs such as Las Vegas Academy and Del Sol Academy, per Magnet Qualification Requirements.
Per Application Information, most secondary Magnets take students entering ninth and tenth grade because programs need at least three years. Ed W. Clark High School, Las Vegas Academy, Del Sol Academy, and some IB programs also accept eleventh grade applications. Kindergarten applicants must be five years old on or before August 1, matching Nevada Department of Education age rules on Application Information.
Per Application Information, a student already enrolled in a Magnet program does not reapply for that program and may continue through the highest grade at that school if progress is satisfactory. A new application is needed only for a different Magnet program or when moving from elementary to middle or middle to high.
After the deadline, qualified applications enter a random computerized lottery. Families get email or text when results appear in SchoolMint: Selected, Alternate Pool, or Not Qualified. As of Tuesday, October 6, 2026 PT, magnet.ccsd.net has not posted a lottery results date for the 2027 to 2028 cycle. Preferences listed on the Selection Process page include sibling, geographic, and feeder. Selection Process also lists a CTA transportation preference for qualified Career and Technical Academy applicants who live inside the CTA transportation zone (it does not apply to Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy or Advanced Technologies Academy) and a continuum preference for Gordon McCaw STEM Academy fifth graders who put Lyal Burkholder Academy of Environmental Science first on an on time Magnet application. Magnet preferences apply only to a student's first choice on time Magnet application. Sibling preference, per Application Information, goes to a qualified applicant whose sibling is already enrolled and will be concurrently enrolled at that Magnet for the upcoming year, and only on that first choice on time application. Sibling preference does not apply when siblings apply at the same time for the same school year, according to both Application Information and Selection Process.
What is Open Enrollment (formerly COSA)?
Open Enrollment lets families apply for seats in CCSD schools that have open capacity. It is not Magnet. The School Choice section of the Back to School page and the Open Enrollment site both note the rename from Change of School Assignment (COSA). The SchoolMint login footer still labels the pathway "Open Enrollment (OE)/Change of School Assignment (COSA)."
If a school draws more applications than seats, a lottery decides offers. Students not selected stay in an alternate pool. Seats can fill through the tenth day of the school year. Once accepted, a student may remain through the highest grade at that school. A new Open Enrollment application is required when moving from elementary to middle or middle to high school. Not every campus participates. Check the live capacity list on the Open Enrollment page before you spend a choice slot.
Open Enrollment late applications run Monday, March 22, through Friday, August 20, 2027, at 3:00 p.m., according to the Open Enrollment page (checked October 6, 2026 PT).
What is Central Technical Training Academy?
Central Technical Training Academy is a separate School Choice category for career and technical education in Advanced Manufacturing and Building Trades in Construction Technology. Students take CTE coursework plus courses that meet graduation requirements, with flexible hybrid scheduling, according to the CCSD Back to School School Choice section (checked October 6, 2026 PT). centraltechccsd.org describes a campus that exclusively serves grades 11 and 12 with hybrid CTE.
The Central Technical Training Academy FAQ states an eight credit floor by the end of grade 10, including one English credit and one Math credit, for students entering eleventh or twelfth grade in 2026 to 2027. The It's Your Choice Spring Fair page for 2026 to 2027 late choice lists the same floor. That is not locked as the 2027 to 2028 rule on the academy site. Confirm entry criteria in SchoolMint or with the academy at 702 799 0250.
What happens after you accept one seat?
Students selected for more than one School Choice option may accept only one invitation. Once a family accepts, the student is removed from other School Choice alternate and late lotteries, according to the Magnet Application Process page. The Open Enrollment page states the same one acceptance rule: once a seat is accepted, all other Open Enrollment and Magnet applications for that student are automatically declined.
Magnet late applications open the first Monday after CCSD spring break and run through the tenth day of the school year at 3:00 p.m., per Late Application Information. Late applicants cannot reapply to Magnets they already tried on time, preferences do not apply late, and students who already accepted another School Choice seat are not considered.
Will CCSD bus my child to a choice school?
Magnet transportation is not automatic. Students must live inside the Magnet program's transportation zone and more than two miles from the school under Regulation 3531, according to Magnet Application Information and the Magnet Transportation page. Bus stops for Magnet students are at designated centralized locations, per Back to School. Families outside eligibility provide their own ride. Magnet transportation maps posted for the current cycle are labeled for the 2026 to 2027 school year and may change year to year.
An Open Enrollment seat does not come with a district bus. The Open Enrollment FAQs state that CCSD Transportation will not be provided for students attending a school on an Open Enrollment option. For 2026 to 2027, CCSD advertised a limited Open Enrollment transportation reimbursement of up to $1,000 for eligible families zoned for a 1 or 2 star school who enrolled in a 3 star or higher school through Open Enrollment. A July 29, 2026 CCSD newsroom release ties that program to Assembly Bill 533 funding, calls it a one year program, and states that state funds are not secured for the 2027 to 2028 school year or beyond. Do not assume it will attach to a 2027 to 2028 Open Enrollment seat until the district posts updated rules.
Transportation: 702 799 8100. Zoning: 702 799 6430 or ccsd.net/zoning.
Who do parents call, and what should you do before January 12?
