Clark County School District School Choice for 2027 to 2028 is open now through January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m. Use this short checklist to decide Magnet, Open Enrollment, or Central Technical Training Academy before you spend a SchoolMint slot.
Clark County School District opened 2027 to 2028 School Choice on Monday, October 5, 2026. The on time deadline is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m., according to magnet.ccsd.net and It's Your Choice Open Enrollment (checked Wednesday, October 7, 2026). One SchoolMint form covers Magnet, Open Enrollment (formerly Change of School Assignment), and Central Technical Training Academy (CTTA). You get five applications total and no more than three in any single category. A student selected for more than one option may accept only one invitation, and accepting removes the student from the other alternate and late lotteries.
When does a Magnet application make sense?
Pick a Magnet when your child wants a themed program. Magnet Application Information says "Any student currently residing or planning to reside in Clark County may submit an application to attend a magnet school of their choice." Themes on magnet.ccsd.net run from International Baccalaureate and performing and creative arts to STEM, leadership, and career and technical pathways. Elementary and middle Magnets are interest based. High school Magnets are criteria, interest, or audition based, and applicants to Las Vegas Academy and Del Sol Academy must attend or submit an audition at the school for the application to be complete, per Qualification Requirements.
Most secondary Magnets take students entering ninth and tenth grade because programs need at least three years. Ed W. Clark High School, Las Vegas Academy, Del Sol Academy, and some IB programs also accept eleventh grade applications, per Application Information. Preferences such as sibling, geographic, and feeder attach only to a student's first choice on time Magnet application, per the Selection Process page. Rank that first Magnet carefully. For themes, tours, lottery preferences, and bus zones, use the longer Magnet parent guide.
When does Open Enrollment make sense?
Open Enrollment, the old Change of School Assignment pathway under a new name, gets you a seat at a neighborhood campus with open capacity, not a themed Magnet. The Open Enrollment page says "Not all schools have open seats. The list of participating Open Enrollment schools is determined by available capacity." The Open Enrollment FAQs say no Open Enrollment request "will be accepted for any magnet school program."
If more families apply than seats exist, a lottery decides offers. Alternates can move up through the tenth day of the school year. Once accepted, the student may stay through the highest grade at that school. The FAQs also say a parent and student "must agree to stay at the new assigned school for at least one year," and the student may return to the zoned school after that year. A new Open Enrollment application is required when moving from elementary to middle or middle to high school. CCSD does not bus Open Enrollment students, per the FAQs. The Open Enrollment page lists a late window, March 22 to August 20, 2027, at 3:00 p.m. Magnet preferences attach only to the first choice on time Magnet application, so that preference is gone after January 12. For the rename and stay rules, see Open Enrollment, formerly COSA.
When does Central Technical Training Academy make sense?
CTTA takes only rising juniors and seniors who want career and technical training in Advanced Manufacturing or Building Trades in Construction Technology, plus courses that meet graduation requirements, with flexible hybrid scheduling. The CCSD Back to School School Choice section describes that focus. The academy site says the campus exclusively serves grades 11 and 12. Address: 1725 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89104. Phone: 702 799 0250. Confirm 2027 to 2028 entry rules in SchoolMint or with the academy before you use a CTTA choice.
Caps and one acceptance
Five schools or programs total across Magnet, Open Enrollment, and CTTA.
No more than three in any single category, per the Open Enrollment Process page. The Magnet Application Process page allows up to three Magnet programs inside the five.
Students selected for more than one School Choice option may accept only one invitation. Accepting removes the student from other School Choice alternate and late lotteries, per Application Process and Open Enrollment.
Apply at applyccsd.schoolmint.com. Changes stop after the deadline.
What should you verify before spending a slot?
Check these items once, then file:
Theme and entry type for each Magnet (interest, criteria, or audition), including audition timing for arts campuses. For criteria programs, the Qualification Requirements page converts first semester or trimester grades to points out of 26, and a student "must achieve a minimum score of 16 points" to enter the lottery.
Live Open Enrollment capacity for each campus you want. Skip schools that are not on the list.
Grade fit for CTTA if your child is not entering 11 or 12.
Transportation. Magnet busing is not automatic. Students must live inside the program transportation zone and more than two miles from the school under Regulation 3531. Open Enrollment has no district bus.
Zoned school backup if every choice fails. Zoning: 702 799 6430 or ccsd.net/zoning.
You are applying for 2027 to 2028, but the Magnet Transportation page is labeled for the 2026 to 2027 school year and says "Stop locations may be adjusted year to year," so check the zone before you spend a Magnet slot. The 2026 to 2027 Open Enrollment transportation reimbursement page says funds "are not secured" for the 2027 to 2028 school year or beyond, so do not rank an Open Enrollment school counting on that money (our reimbursement guide).
