Clark County School District Magnet applications for 2027 to 2028 are open now through January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m. Themes run from IB and arts to STEM and CTE. Entry rules, geographic preference, CTA transportation preference, and bus eligibility decide who gets a workable seat.

Clark County School District is accepting 2027 to 2028 Magnet applications now. The on time deadline is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m., according to magnet.ccsd.net and the Magnet Application Information page (checked Wednesday, October 7, 2026 PT). Apply in SchoolMint through the Apply link on magnet.ccsd.net, which opens applyccsd.schoolmint.com.

Open Enrollment and Central Technical Training Academy go on the same SchoolMint form and count toward the same five total choices; those pathways stay in CCSD Insider's companion School Choice open window guide. What follows is Magnet only.

What themes do CCSD Magnet schools offer?

CCSD Magnet schools offer themed programs that students from across the district may apply to regardless of the region where they live, according to magnet.ccsd.net. The district's Find a Magnet School search groups themes as Career and Technical Education (CTE), International Baccalaureate (IB), Leadership and Communications, Performing and Creative Arts, STEM, and STEAM.

Full Magnet campuses and Magnet programs inside neighborhood schools both appear in that directory. Elementary, middle, high, and K through 8 options are listed across multiple pages. For an offline scan, Application Information links a September 2026 Magnet Schools Catalog (English) and a Spanish catalog.

Use the theme and program filters on Find a Magnet School rather than memorizing every campus name. Program titles range from cybersecurity and biomedical pathways to theatre, mariachi, IB, and teacher education. Confirm the exact program your child would enter before you spend a first choice slot.

How do parents see Magnet schools before applying?

Magnet Application Process Step 1 tells families to explore through school based open houses, camps and workshops, shadow days, parent workshops, and community events. The Magnet homepage gives a similar list.

Local news FOX5 reported on October 5, 2026, a magnet schools fair Saturday, November 14, 2026, at South Career and Technical Academy, 9 a.m. to noon. The Magnet events calendar did not show it as of October 7, 2026. Confirm with the Magnet Schools Department at 702 799 8492 before you go, and check each school's own website for open house and shadow day dates.

Application Information says no application, tuition, or entrance fees are charged for admission, but some schools or programs may require a program fee for enrolled students, so ask the school before you accept a seat.

Who is eligible, and what are interest, criteria, and audition Magnets?

Students entering Kindergarten through 10th grade for the school year after the application period may apply. Kindergarten applicants must be five years old on or before August 1, per the Nevada Department of Education. Application Information says, "Most secondary magnet programs only accept 9th and 10th grade students because they have programs of study in which a student must participate for a minimum of three years." Find a Magnet School lists middle school Magnets as grades 6 to 8, so the 9th and 10th line is a high school entry rule. Ed W. Clark High School, Las Vegas Academy, Del Sol Academy, and some IB programs also accept 11th grade applications.

Entry is interest based, criteria based, or audition based, per Application Information and Qualification Requirements.

Elementary and middle Magnet entry is interest based. High school entry can be criteria based, interest based, or audition based. For criteria based high school programs, Qualification Requirements says: "Using first semester or trimester grades, each subject grade is converted into a point value (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). The total earned points are then calculated out of a maximum possible score of 26." To qualify for the criteria based program lottery, the page says a student "must achieve a minimum score of 16 points." The page does not list the courses behind the 26 points. Call the Magnet Schools Department at 702 799 8492, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., before relying on a total. Audition based applicants to Las Vegas Academy and Del Sol Academy must attend or submit an audition at the school they apply to before the application is complete. Follow each school's posted audition requirements.

Any student currently residing or planning to reside in Clark County may apply. Students already enrolled in a Magnet program do not reapply for that same program in later years. Application Information says, "The student may continue in that school or program until the student completes the highest grade at that school as long as the student continues to make satisfactory progress." Students expelled or dismissed from a current Magnet, or enrolled in an academic center, may be ineligible for the lottery. Referral to an academic center during application, selection, or enrollment can revoke an application or seat.

Students with disabilities face the same admission criteria. The district says accommodations will be made where possible so a student can meet program requirements. Current CCSD students' disability information is accessed through Infinite Campus. Non CCSD families are encouraged to voluntarily share disability and related needs with the application.

If selected and enrolled, students attend the Magnet full time for the entire school year. Part time Magnet class hopping is not allowed. Accepting a seat commits your child for the full year: Application Information says withdrawing to another CCSD school happens only when the academic year ends. Twins or other multiples who apply to the same school in the same phase get a narrow exception: if one is accepted, the other, if qualified, will be offered a seat at the same school through an appeal. Contact the Magnet school for that process. Sibling preference for older or younger siblings already enrolled is a different rule, covered below.

How does the Magnet lottery work, and which preferences matter?

After the deadline, qualified applications enter a computerized random lottery for available seats. SchoolMint collects applications and runs that lottery, per the Selection Process page. Families get an email or text when results are ready on the parent dashboard in SchoolMint: Selected, Alternate Pool, or Not Qualified, per the Application Process page.

Preferences apply only to a student's first choice on time Magnet application. For middle and high school Magnets, the applicant must also meet that program's qualifications. Selection Process lists:

Sibling preference: a qualified applicant whose sibling is already enrolled and attending that Magnet, and will be concurrently enrolled there next year. Sibling preference does not apply when siblings apply at the same time for the same school year.

Geographic preference: a qualified applicant living inside the established magnet school geographic preference area set by the CCSD Demographics, Zoning, and Geographic Information System Department, on a first choice on time application only.

Feeder preference: a student currently in a Magnet elementary or middle who applies to an entry grade at a Magnet middle or high.

CTA transportation preference: a qualified Career and Technical Academy applicant who lives inside the established CTA transportation zone. That preference is for CTA applicants only. It does not apply to Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy or Advanced Technologies Academy. Geographic preference and CTA transportation preference are lottery preferences, not bus eligibility: a family can live inside the geographic preference area and outside the transportation zone, or inside a CTA transportation zone and still fail the two mile test. Neither map is the zoned school boundary.

Continuum preference: Grade 5 students at Gordon McCaw STEM Academy get priority placement at Lyal Burkholder Academy of Environmental Science when that campus is their first choice on an on time application. The district uses both names: Selection Process says Gordon McCaw STEM Academy, while Find a Magnet School and the Magnet venue page say Gordon McCaw STEAM Academy, 330 Tin St., Henderson.

You may apply to up to three Magnet programs inside the wider School Choice cap of five total schools or programs across Magnet, Open Enrollment, and Central Technical Training Academy, per Application Process, which also says "no changes can be made once the deadline passes." After you submit, check your email for a submission confirmation, per Application Process. Later, if you accept a selected seat, the district sends a second email confirming the acceptance. If that acceptance email does not arrive, log back into your student's application to make sure your selection was recorded. Rank Magnets carefully. Preferences hitch to first choice only. Accepting any School Choice seat removes the student from other School Choice alternate and late lotteries.

Late Magnet applications open the first Monday after CCSD spring break and run through the tenth day of the school year at 3:00 p.m., per Late Application Information. Late applicants cannot reapply to Magnets they already tried on time, preferences do not apply late, and students who already accepted another School Choice seat are not considered.

Will CCSD bus my child to a Magnet school?

Magnet transportation is not automatic. Bus eligibility takes both: residence inside the Magnet program's transportation zone and more than two miles from the school under Regulation 3531, according to Application Information and the Magnet Transportation page. Bus eligibility is not geographic preference or CTA transportation preference: a family inside the geographic preference area can be outside the transportation zone, and a family inside a CTA transportation zone can still fail the two mile test. Neither map is the zoned school boundary. Families outside eligibility arrange their own ride and still must keep regular, on time attendance.

The Transportation hub states that posted transportation information is for the 2026 to 2027 school year. Pickup and drop off location text on the Magnet map pages is also labeled for 2026 to 2027. Stop locations may be adjusted year to year, and Magnet transportation zone adjustments are not reflected on the main CCSD Transportation website, per Application Information. Confirming eligibility is the parent's job, the Transportation page says, so check the Magnet transportation zone map for your campus before you count on a bus for 2027 to 2028.

Magnet transportation zone maps: elementary at magnet.ccsd.net/elementary-school-maps/, middle at magnet.ccsd.net/middle-school-maps/, high at magnet.ccsd.net/high-school-maps/, and Career and Technical Academies at magnet.ccsd.net/career-and-technical-academies-maps/.

Athletics and activities can affect the ride picture after enrollment. Clubs and extracurriculars are limited to the enrolled school under Regulation 5132. Except for Southeast CTA, CTAs and Las Vegas Academy do not participate in NIAA athletics. Parents and students at those schools must work out sports eligibility with the zoned school, and athletes provide their own ride to zoned school practices and games. A student athlete who returns to the zoned school or makes another enrollment change may be ineligible for the rest of that school year and for 180 school days in any sport rostered at the Magnet, per NIAA rules cited on Application Information. Ask your school's athletic office before you accept.
