A CCSD kindergartner must turn five on or before August 1. Here are the documents the zoned school asks for, where the immunization rules live, and how a Magnet kindergarten application works for 2027 to 2028.

Clark County School District places a child in kindergarten only if the student is five years of age on or before August 1, according to register.ccsd.net, ccsd.net/enroll, the Back to School age section, and Magnet Application Information (all checked Wednesday, October 7, 2026). Back to School cites Nevada Revised Statutes 392.040 for the age requirement.

The registration pages say online registration for the 2026 to 2027 school year "is now open." Back to School states that registration for that year began April 20, 2026, and that classes began August 10, 2026.

What is the CCSD kindergarten age cutoff?

A child starting kindergarten in 2027 to 2028 needs a fifth birthday on or before August 1, 2027. Register.ccsd.net, ccsd.net/enroll, and Back to School all state that rule in plain language. Magnet Application Information repeats it for kindergarten Magnet applicants "per the State of Nevada Department of Education."

Back to School adds: "Nevada State Law does not permit four year olds to enroll in kindergarten with the exception of military transfers." A military transfer student may enroll in kindergarten if the student met kindergarten age requirements in the prior state, and that transfer can occur at any point in the school year, per the same Back to School age section.

Children are placed in the age appropriate grade based on age as of August 1 unless retained or demoted under district policies, the enrollment pages state, citing NRS 392.040.

What documents do I bring after online registration?

Families new to CCSD, or returning after leaving, complete the New to District online registration on register.ccsd.net or ccsd.net/enroll, then bring all required documents to the child's zoned school. Existing CCSD families use Campus Parent to re register or add a child. The online system is available in English and Spanish. The pages tell parents to contact the zoned school for school registration dates and hours.

Find the zoned elementary school with Zoning Search from ccsd.net/zoning, covered in CCSD Insider's Zoning Search guide. Demographics, Zoning, and GIS: 702 799 6430.

Have these ready, matching Back to School and the register.ccsd.net lists:

  1. Proof of address. Back to School accepts one recent utility bill (telephone and cable bills are not acceptable), current mortgage statement, rental receipt, residential lease agreement, or sales contract. Register.ccsd.net lists a recent utility bill, rent receipt, or residence lease or sales contract, and states that a driver's license, telephone bill, or cable bill is not acceptable. If the only proof is a lease or sales contract for a future date, register.ccsd.net says the school will register the child on the condition that one additional proof of address from its list is submitted within 30 days.

  2. Parent or guardian personal identification. A driver's license, picture identification, or passport bearing the parent or guardian name. Permanent and temporary guardians should be ready to show guardianship proof at registration, per Back to School.

  3. Proof of the child's identity. Bring one of these, and register.ccsd.net says photocopies will not be accepted: original birth certificate, passport, or certified birth card issued by the Clark County Health District or another health district.

  4. Immunization records. Nevada law requires documentation unless a religious or medical exemption applies.

If the household lacks usual address documents because of a temporary or homeless situation, call Title I HOPE at 702 855 6682. Back to School notes that eligible Title I HOPE families may get additional days for immunizations and proof of address, and may get help obtaining a birth certificate when a copy is not available.

Where do parents find immunization rules for kindergarten?

The district's 2026 to 2027 immunization guidelines are on register.ccsd.net and ccsd.net/enroll, which cite NRS 392.435. Unless excused for religious belief or medical condition, a child may not enroll in a Nevada public school without a certificate showing required immunizations or compliance with the schedules under NRS 439.550.

Those pages also link a K through 12 Quick Immunization Reference Guide for 2026 to 2027 and related health resources. Religious exemption forms are completed annually under state guidelines. Permanent medical exemptions do not need annual renewal. Temporary medical exemptions are completed annually.

For help obtaining shots, Back to School points parents to the Southern Nevada Health District at 702 759 0850, a licensed health care provider, CCSD immunization events, or school based health centers, and to the Parent/Guardian Resource Page for event information.

Do I register for the zoned school before Magnet School Choice?

They are separate steps. Zoned registration enrolls your child at the neighborhood school. A Magnet kindergarten seat for 2027 to 2028 comes through School Choice. Magnet Application Information says any student "currently residing or planning to reside in Clark County" may apply, and that students entering kindergarten through tenth grade for the school year after the application period may apply. Kindergarten applicants must be five on or before August 1.

The 2027 to 2028 School Choice window opened Monday, October 5, 2026. The on time deadline is Tuesday, January 12, 2027, at 3:00 p.m. Apply in SchoolMint at applyccsd.schoolmint.com. Elementary Magnet entry is interest based, per Qualification Requirements. Caps, Magnet versus Open Enrollment, and the one seat acceptance rule are in CCSD Insider's School Choice open window guide and Magnet parent guide.
